Hamilton Golf Club
Hamilton Golf Club has a long record of success, with members achieving outstanding results in club competitions, county and national events, and on the international stage. This section highlights some of the most notable achievements from both our Gents and Ladies sections, recognising the players whose performances have helped shape the club’s reputation.
Hamilton’s gents have produced outstanding golfers across generations, achieving success at club, county, national and international level. This section highlights some of the most notable performances and championship records in the club’s history.
John C. Barbour – First Club Champion (1912)
The club’s first recorded Club Champion, setting the foundation for more than a century of competitive excellence.
P.E. Soutter – 8‑Time Champion
A dominant figure across the pre‑ and post‑war eras, winning the Club Championship eight times and demonstrating remarkable longevity and consistency: 1913, 1920, 1922, 1923, 1925, 1928, 1947 and 1948.
Stewart Henderson – 7‑Time Champion & Internationalist
Club Champion in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023. Additional achievements:
Brian Smith – Multi Title Champion & Scottish Mid-Amateur Winner
Hamilton’s Only Junior, Club & Senior Champion
Harry Milligan – 5‑Time Champion
Five‑time Club Champion across the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
David Cardwell – 4‑Time Champion and Record‑Setting Player
Club Champion in 2012, 2013, 2021 and 2022. Record achievements:
1996 Scottish Mid Amateur Championship
Both finalists were Hamilton members — Brian Smith defeated Euan Moir.
Ronnie Maclean – Scottish Seniors Match Play Champion (2008)
Winner of the Scottish Seniors Match Play Championship.
