Course Record

Below are some of the outstanding scores and achievements recorded over the years. Although the course and tees have evolved, each performance deserves recognition for the remarkable standard it set.

  • 1984 – Gordon Hogg
Gordon Hogg produced one of the finest rounds ever recorded at Hamilton, shooting a gross 62 from a handicap of 3 for a net 59.

  • 2004 & 2018 – Euan Moir
Following course adjustments, Euan Moir set the new course record in 2004 with a gross 64, and later surpassed his own mark in 2018 with a superb 63.

  • 2022 – Martin Scott
On 13 August 2022, Martin Scott matched Euan Moir’s long‑standing record with a gross 63 in challenging conditions.

  • 2023 – Gregg Watson (Current Record Holder)
On 6 May 2023, Gregg Watson set the current course record with a gross 62 (–8) while playing from a handicap of +3. His round included nine birdies and a single bogey — an exceptional performance that now stands as the benchmark.

One of the most remarkable rounds ever played at Hamilton was recorded by visiting player Wilma Aitken in 1981 during the Ladies Open Competition, the Riccarton Rosebowl. Wilma achieved two world records at the time — across both men’s and women’s golf, amateur or professional — by scoring 11 birdies in a single round, including nine consecutive birdies from the 3rd to the 11th holes. This remains an extraordinary feat, especially considering the equipment available in 1981.

While the world record for total birdies in a round has since been surpassed in the professional game, Wilma’s record for consecutive birdies has never been beaten on the European PGA Tour. It was first equalled in the professional ranks by Mark Calcavecchia in 2009 during the Canadian Open, and on the LPGA Tour by Beth Daniel in 1999 during the Philips Invitational.

Wilma therefore still jointly holds the world record — an achievement that places Hamilton Golf Club proudly on the world golfing map.
